Intarsia Wood Art

Intarsia Wood Art consists of using natural colors of wood from around the world.

All pieces are cut manually using a scroll saw. No CNC or lasers are used.

Each piece is individually cut, shaped, sanded, and glued to a backerboard.

Finished with a clear varnish. No stains, paints, or dyes are used.

Select wood & lay the pattern

01

Choosing Wood & Laying the Pattern

Every intarsia piece begins with carefully selecting different wood species for their natural colour, grain, and texture. The pattern is then arranged like a puzzle, planning how each piece will flow together to create depth and movement in the final design.

02

Cutting the Pieces

Each individual section is precisely cut by hand using a scroll saw to match the pattern exactly. Accuracy at this stage is essential, as every piece must fit seamlessly alongside the others.

Sanding & Shaping

The wood is carefully sanded and sculpted to create dimension, shadows, and lifelike contours within the artwork. This shaping process is what gives intarsia its signature depth and three-dimensional appearance.

04

Gluing & Backing

Once all pieces are shaped and refined, they are assembled and glued together one by one onto a sturdy backing board. Careful alignment ensures the design remains balanced, secure, and visually cohesive.

Sealing & Finishing

The finished piece is sealed to protect the wood while enhancing its natural grain and colour variation. Multiple finishing touches are applied to create a smooth, durable surface that highlights the craftsmanship of the artwork.
